REGINA — Saskatchewan recorded the highest year-over-year growth in building construction investment among provinces, according to new Statistics Canada data released Monday.

The province saw a 27.8 per cent increase in March 2025 compared to the same month in 2024.

"It is clear Saskatchewan remains the destination of choice, whether for business or for those looking to put down roots here," Trade and Export Development Minister Warren Kaeding said. "The continued growth in building construction is leading to more jobs and opportunities for Saskatchewan people, reflecting the strength of our provincial economy."

Both residential and non-residential building construction posted significant gains, increasing 29.8 per cent and 24.2 per cent respectively year-over-year.

Building construction investment is calculated based on the total value of spending on construction within a province.

In addition to construction growth, Statistics Canada reported Saskatchewan's real gross domestic product (GDP) at basic prices reached an all-time high of $80.5 billion in 2024. That marks a $2.6 billion—or 3.4 per cent—increase over 2023, placing Saskatchewan second among provinces and well above the national average growth rate of 1.6 per cent.

Private capital investment in Saskatchewan rose 17.3 per cent last year to $14.7 billion, the highest increase in the country. It is projected to rise another 10.1 per cent in 2025 to reach $16.2 billion—second among provinces for anticipated growth.

The Government of Saskatchewan unveiled its Securing the Next Decade of Growth strategy last year. The investment attraction plan, along with the province’s trade and investment website, InvestSK.ca, is intended to help position Saskatchewan as a top destination for business in Canada.
