Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Regina and southern Saskatchewan

Regina and southern Saskatchewan are under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Aug. 17

REGINA - The city of Regina and southern Saskatchewan are under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch this afternoon.

According to the statement issued this afternoon by Environment Canada:

"Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain. Thunderstorms are developing along a stalled trough of low pressure this afternoon. Thunderstorms will continue into the evening hours."

People are urged to prepare for severe weather and to take cover in a basement or interior room if it approaches. Stay tuned for further weather updates this afternoon. 

Already today there is a Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect in the northeast for the R.M. of Clayton including Norquay, Stenen and Swan Plain, for the R.M. of Keys including The Key Res, and for the R.M. of Livingston including Arran.

 Environment Canada is reporting that slow moving thunderstorms have developed between The Key and Swan River.
