SaskTel says wireless service is now back to normal in the province.

REGINA — A software update gone haywire turned out to be the cause of the widespread SaskTel outage on Aug. 22.

SaskTel confirmed to SaskToday that their investigation found the wireless voice and Integrated Business Communications (IBC) outage was caused by a software update applied to equipment within the network that handles Voice over LTE and IBC voice services.

SaskTel said they were able to restore services by rerouting voice traffic and reversing the changes. Wireless voice services were restored on Aug. 22 by around 11:30 a.m., and IBC services were restored by around 4:45 p.m. that same day.

SaskTel reports that network traffic has since returned to normal and that wireless voice and IBC services are functioning normally.
