SASKATCHEWAN  — Some parts of Saskatchewan were hit with 50-plus millimetres of rain over the weekend.

Environment Canada said western parts of the province received the most rain, with Lucky Lake getting roughly 71 millimetres.

Other areas receiving large rainfall included Scott (62.5 millimetres), Rosetown (58 millimetres), and Outlook (56 millimetres).

Parts of Sask. saw flooding over the weekend. Environment Canada said flooding can depend on the area and how well moisture is absorbed into soil.

The storm was caused by convective activity coming from the south, according to Environment Canada.

This process often brings thunderstorms, causing large downpours of rain.

It’s unlikely Saskatchewan will see heavy downpours like this again in 2025, as Environment Canada says this happens only every few years.

“These big organized systems usually are less likely to happen in the summertime with more scattered thunderstorms,” said a spokesperson.
