Team Sask wrestlers bring home seven medals, Summer Games

Several teams made it past the preliminary round and will continue their medal hunt during the next two days of competition.

REGINA - Team Sask fought hard during Day 5 at the 2022 Canada Summer Games to bring home seven wrestling medals. This brings the Team Sask medal count to eight!

Athletes from across the province celebrated with their teammates, parents, and friends from Saskatoon to cheer hard and loud, while showing their support.

Team Sask’s women's basketball team played another excellent game winning against Nova Scotia, 78 to 56. Team Sask moves forward to the semi-finals today, August 12, against Quebec at Niagara College - Welland Campus.

A huge round of applause goes out to the box lacrosse and softball teams as they played their hearts out but are unfortunately out of contention for a medal.

PREVIOUS DAY HIGHLIGHTS:

  • BASEBALL (M): After a day off, Team Sask is back on the field playing in the semifinals (August 12) against Team ON or Team QC.
  • BASKETBALL: Men’s basketball fell short to Team BC 117-81; they will play in the consolation round (August 12). Women’s basketball took the win against NS 78-56 to advance to the semifinals (August 12)
  • BEACH VOLLEYBALL: The men made their way to the quarterfinal after defeating Team NL in two sets 21-8 and 21-17. In quarterfinal action against BC, Team Sask came up short losing in two sets 21-13 and 21-12. They will play team MB in the consolation round (August 12). The women ended their match against NL with a big kill. Final score 21-10 and 21-15. In quarterfinal action against BC the women lost in two sets 21-18 and 26-24. They will play again (August 12) in the consolation round.
  • BOX LACROSSE (F): Team Sask made it the consolation round. They played Team MB and come up short in the end, losing 5-0. It was a great effort by this young group of athletes.
  • MOUNTAIN BIKE: After a day off the men will compete in the sprint event (August 12).
  • RUGBY SEVENS: Competition is now complete for Team Sask. The women ended their run with a win over Team NB 27-0 (August 10) to finish seventh overall.
  • SOCCER (M): The men played a trilling game against Team MB. Hitting the next three times to win 3-0. They now move on to play Team BC for 5th place.
  • SOFTBALL (F): The women took on Team MB for the second time these Games. This time they were on the winning side with a score of 4-3. They then took on Team ON and fell short 5-4 in qualification. They are now out of the competition.
  • SWIMMING, PARA SWIMMING, SPECIAL OLYMPICS: Top ten finishes in the pool include Sam Fisher eighth in the 50m backstroke Special Olympics female, Ian Genest placed nineth in 200m IM male and Ben Stewart placed 10th in the 200m IM male.
  • TENNIS: Team Sask was on the court today quarterfinal action against Team AB in the team mix event. They were unable to put together enough points for a win. Final score 5-1. They will play in the consolation round against NL (August 12).
  • TRIATHLON: Nata Kolesova was just a tenth behind third place in the supersprint with a time of 26:22. She earned her second fourth placing of the Games. Molly Lakustiak was ninth, while Naomi Brown finished 22nd. On the men’s side Kaelen Kolb was 11th, Henry Bristol 13th and Alex Kolesov was 19th.
