On March 12, 2019, at about 12 p.m., Warman RCMP received a complaint from a Highway Patrol Officer that a sport bike had passed him on Highway 45, south of Delisle, Saskatchewan, doing approximately 160 km/hr. The Highway Patrol Officer attempted a traffic stop of the motorcycle, but the driver ignored the emergency lights.
The driver continued going north along Highway 45, where a member of Vanscoy Police Service also attempted to get the motorcycle to stop. The driver ignored the officer’s request to stop and continued going east on Highway 7 at approximately 200 km/hr toward Saskatoon.
Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) Air provided support and tracked the vehicle from the air.
At one point, the driver turned around and headed back toward Delisle, in the direction he had come.
The Highway Patrol Officer encountered the driver again, this time near Swanson, and attempted a second stop, which the driver also ignored.
SPS Air observed the driver doing approximately 260 km/hr at some points.
A few kilometres south of Swanson, SPS Air observed the bike pulling off the road onto a rural property where he attempted to hide the bike from police. The driver then fled on foot.
Officers from the Vanscoy Police Service, Highway Patrol and Outlook RCMP were able to track the driver to an outbuilding on the property where he was hiding. Warman RCMP arrived and arrested a 20 year-old male without incident.
As a result, Jonah Vanderlinden, of Swanson, Saskatchewan, is charged with:
· 3 counts of flight from a peace officer, Sec. 320.17 of the Criminal Code (CC)
· Dangerous driving, Sec. 320.13 CC
He will appear in Saskatoon Provincial Court on May 8 at 2 p.m.
