TERREBONNE, Que. — An 81-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder in the strangling death of his 79-year-old wife at a Montreal-area seniors residence.
Police were called to the residence, Ressource de Lanaudière, in Terrebonne, Que., around 6 p.m. Saturday after two people were found unconscious in an apartment.
Thérèse Brassard-Lévesque was declared dead at the scene, and Gilles Brassard was transported to hospital.
Terrebonne police say Brassard's health had improved enough that they were able to formally arrest him.
He appeared in Laval, Que., court by video conference from a hospital bed.
Brassard is scheduled to return to court on Nov. 30.
