REGINA — The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) is advising residents in Regina and surrounding areas of a construction project impacting traffic flow around Regina General Hospital (RGH), including access to the hospital's parkade.

The City of Regina began work on a three-phased project on 13th Avenue starting April 28. The project is expected to be completed later this summer. The second phase of construction, scheduled from May 12 to late June, will affect the area between Halifax Street and Toronto Street. During this phase, the 13th Avenue entrance to the RGH parkade will be temporarily closed.

Although the RGH parkade will remain open throughout all phases of construction, access during phase two will only be available via 14th Avenue. Patients and visitors are encouraged to use the 15th Avenue entrance for drop-offs and pick-ups to avoid congestion at the 14th Avenue entrance when possible.

Emergency medical services (EMS) will continue to have priority access to the hospital via Toronto Street. Patients, visitors, and staff are asked not to use Toronto Street for parkade or hospital access, as EMS is not expected to be impacted by the construction.

Phase three of the project, affecting the area between Montreal Street and Winnipeg Street, is expected to cause traffic delays and may impact access to the 13th Avenue entrance to the parkade. Drivers who typically use 13th Avenue to travel to RGH should be aware of potential delays and may want to consider alternate routes.
