REGINA – A father, who is mourning the loss of his 35-year-old son to what is believed to be a homicide, is heartbroken and seeking answers after discovering the brutal way his son’s life ended.
RCMP say the body of Aron Daniel Adam Lunan, of Regina, was found in a rural area near Grand Coulee, Sask., around 7:25 a.m. on June 10.
“He was my baby, my youngest,” said his father Allan Lunan in a phone interview Monday.
Hours after his body was found, Allan said the police got a hold of him and notified him of his son’s death. The Regina Police Service has reportedly taken over the investigation because he died in Regina, said Allan, though this hasn’t been officially confirmed.
“They dumped him like a piece of meat,” said Allan, who said he believes his son was killed in Regina.
Aron’s death is being treated as suspicious by authorities, with RCMP Major Crimes investigating.
Aron, described by his father as a passionate musician and outdoorsman, loved playing guitar, drums, and singing. He enjoyed dirt biking with his father and brother and had a gift for connecting with people, said Allan.
He was loyal to his family and was there when Allan was in the hospital.
“He was my guardian angel when I was on life support with COVID-19 in 2021. I made it, thanks to him.”
Aron’s family plans to honour his love for fishing by placing his ashes near a lake he loved in Alberta and paying a tribute to his memory.
“We’re going to put his urn on the bank with a fishing rod in the holder for him.”
His ashes will be scattered over a sacred family site in Alberta’s coulees, where Allan says their ancestors’ ashes have been spread for generations.
Aron had been working with a counselor in Regina trying to straighten out his life before his death, said Allan.
A memorial will be held Lee Funeral Home and Crematorium in Regina on Wednesday and a second one is planned to be held in Claresholm, Alta.
“Most of his [Aron’s] family live in Alberta," said Allan, adding that his mother lives in British Columbia.
The family is asking for donations to help cover memorial costs. Contributions can be sent to [email protected] or by going to the GoFundMe page.
