Regina police take over homicide investigation of Aron Lunan

On Monday, Aron’s father, Allan Lunan, expressed grief and frustration over his son’s death.

REGINA – The Regina Police Service (RPS) has taken over the homicide investigation into the death of Aron Lunan, a 31-year-old man whose body was discovered in a rural area near Grand Coulee on June 10.

The Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Unit initially led the investigation, treating the death as suspicious before RPS confirmed it is a homicide. After further investigation, RCMP and RPS determined the case originated in Regina.

Aron’s father, Allan Lunan, expressed grief and frustration over his son’s death telling SaskToday on Monday, that he was killed in Regina and his body dumped “like a piece of meat” in a rural area.

Described as a devoted musician and outdoorsman, Aron was known for his love of playing guitar, drums, and singing, said Allan. He also shared a passion for dirt biking with his father and brother. Allan fondly recalled his son’s unwavering support, particularly during his own battle with COVID-19 in 2021.

“He was my guardian angel when I was on life support with COVID-19 in 2021. I made it, thanks to him.”

The family plans to honour Aron’s memory and his love for fishing by placing his ashes near a lake he loved in Alberta and paying a tribute to his memory.

“We’re going to put his urn on the bank with a fishing rod in the holder for him.”

His ashes will be scattered over a sacred family site in Alberta’s coulees, where Allan says their ancestors’ ashes have been spread for generations.

Aron had been working with a counselor in Regina trying to straighten out his life before his death, said Allan.

A memorial will be held Lee Funeral Home and Crematorium in Regina on Wednesday and a second one is planned to be held in Claresholm, Alta.

“Most of his [Aron’s] family live in Alberta," said Allan, adding that his mother lives in British Columbia.

The family is asking for donations to help cover memorial costs. Contributions can be sent to [email protected] or by going to the GoFundMe page.

Investigators are urging anyone who may have been in contact with Lunan between the afternoon of Monday, June 9, 2025 and the morning of Tuesday, June 10, 2025 to reach out.
