REGINA — The City of Regina continues to see an uptick in job creation.
According to labour force data from Statistics Canada, Regina saw 5,600 jobs created in July, up 3.8 per cent year-over-year.
“This doesn’t surprise us from a historical perspective,” said Chris Lane, Economic Development Regina (EDR) CEO. “Regina's economy, including the labour market, is one of steady and kind of predictable growth.”
Since the start of 2025, Regina has added over 20,000 jobs year-over-year. Notably, the city has seen an increase in jobs added from the winter season to the summer.
Lane pinpointed several industries with the most acute need for jobs.
“It continues to be skilled trade, transportation and professional services in Regina.”
Every job created in Regina has a significant impact on the economy.
“A well-paying job here at Regina contributes about $110,000 to $120,000 a year in total to the city's GDP," said Lane.
Lane said this estimate includes wages, taxes and money spent in the local economy.
On any given day, Lane said, there are 2,000 to 2,500 jobs open in Regina.
Part of fulfilling jobs also comes from attracting talent to Regina. This year, EDR launched its talent attraction strategy, which has seen hundreds of people looking at job opportunities EDR has curated for them, while dozens of people are inquiring about considering a move to Regina.
“When we build our campaigns around talent attraction and retention, those are the sectors that bubble to the top as sort of the most important to fill. And quite honestly, that’s where the best opportunities are.”
While EDR’s talent attraction system is working, Lane wants to continue building on it so no momentum is lost.
