REGINA — The Regina Disc Golf Association (RDGA) has broken the record for the most rounds of the sport played in 12 hours on one course.
Previously, the RDGA reached 128 rounds before easily shattering that amount.
“We were able to record 230 rounds,” said Devon Peters, president of the RDGA.
In those 12 hours, 4,140 holes were played, and roughly 1.17 million feet of discs were thrown, over 1 million steps were taken, and a total of 555 km was walked by participants.
Peters said roughly 165 people participated in the event, which included folks from Moose Jaw, Melville, Saskatoon, and Winnipeg.
“We were really pleased to see the number of people that came out and we were impressed by it,” said Peters.
Planning for the event began in Jan., as the group tried finding a record achievable to break.
The RDGA also decided to partner with the Street Culture Project (SCP) to raise funds for the organization.
Peters said the SCP is a great organization to support youth care in the community and doesn’t get enough attention like other groups.
Money was raised for the SCP via a canteen and t-shirts sold. In total, over $500 was raised, which will go towards their culture program.
As for continuing the event, Peters hopes they can do a similar challenge next year.
He is also hoping other disc golf associations in Western Canada take part in breaking the record and also raise funds for a local organization in their area.
