REGINA — Multiple citywide organizations will collaborate to create a safer and more vibrant downtown.

Per a media release, the Regina Public Library (RPL) is hosting a downtown safety and well-being panel.

As part of the panel, Dave Slater,  manager of community well-being at the City of Regina, Katie Dockham, general manager of the Cornwall Centre,  Sgt. Laurie Alexander, alternative response co-ordinator for the Regina Police Service (RPS), and Jason Knudsen, outreach program manager of the Regina Street Team (RST) will talk about strategies and share ideas on creating  a better downtown.

“This is a great group of people to talk about how we can make downtown a safer and more inclusive place for everyone,” said Amber Christensen, executive director, Central Library, RPL. “It’s an opportunity to hear from them about what has worked and what else can be done to create a downtown we can all enjoy.”

Safety issues regarding downtown are apparent on social media and the news, the media release notes.

The panel will have the four individuals speak on how their respective group is responding to concerns and offer ideas going forward.

“This panel is an opportunity to address challenges and share initiatives with our community,” said Judith Veresuk, executive director, Regina Downtown Business Improvement District (RDBID). “We’re happy to partner with Regina Public Library and other stakeholders on these discussions that can help shape our downtown and create positive change.”

The panel will take place Aug., 28 at 7 p.m. at RPL’s central branch.
