The Regina Police Service say the incident remains under investigation.

REGINA – Regina Police Service officers were called to the 1500 block of Athol Street early Wednesday morning after reports that two stolen dogs were being kept at a residence.

At approximately 8:10 a.m., on May 14, police responded to a theft complaint alleging that two dogs had been taken without permission and were believed to be at the Athol Street address. When officers arrived, they spoke with an individual outside the home.

As the person turned to go inside, the two dogs bolted out the front door, running toward one of the officers. In response, the officer discharged their firearm, striking one of the dogs. Police immediately rendered first aid before transporting the injured animal to a local veterinary clinic for emergency treatment.

The Regina Police Service say the incident remains under investigation.

Since a firearm was discharged, the occurrence will be reviewed by the Regina Police Service Use of Force Review Board. All uses of force are also reported to the Saskatchewan Police Commission.
