REGINA – Acting Regina Police Chief Lorilee Davies has issued a statement regarding Michele Bear’s ongoing protest at the city landfill, where she has been camped on a hunger strike for 14 days, demanding a search for her daughter’s remains.

“The Regina Police Service has a long-standing relationship with Ms. Bear. Over the past several weeks, officers and others from RPS met with Michele multiple times daily to ensure her safety and well-being while on site at the landfill.”

Davies confirmed that investigators met with Bear on Thursday to discuss the ongoing investigation about her daughter’s disappearance and homicide.

“This type of dialogue will continue. We acknowledge that Michele has several ideas on how to move forward and, from a policing and investigative perspective, the Regina Police Service will do what we can to assist,” said Davies.

Regina police said they are committed to not only this investigation but also every case they have before them.

“We encourage anyone with any information to come forward to police or report it anonymously through CrimeStoppers,” said Davides. “We are grateful for the opportunity to continue to work together with community partners and community members in our service of this city.”

Michele Bear’s daughter, Richele Bear, went missing in August 2013 and was later confirmed to be a victim of Clayton Eichler, who pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for her death and the death of Kelly Goforth. Bear’s body was never found.

Regina Police Service told me my daughter is buried in the landfill,” said Michele Bear earlier this year. “But they don't want to dig her up. Why? How come they don't want to dig up my daughter?”
