REGINA – Over the past week, Regina Police Service Aerial Support Unit (ASU) responded to 79 calls for service and spent more than 30 hours in the sky, contributing to community safety from above.

While ASU plays a vital role in responding to criminal activity, their work goes far beyond that. Last week, ASU was part of a large team working to locate an elderly man who had gone missing. On July 22, a BOLO was issued by the RCMP regarding an elderly male who had left Regina at 2:30 p.m. en route to Midale but had not arrived by 8:15 p.m. A Weyburn Police Service member on routine patrol located the vehicle and the elderly male. He was safely transported to the Weyburn Police Service, where he was later picked up by family.

Over the weekend, ASU was able to locate a vulnerable youth at risk of self-harm who had also gone missing. Following an unsuccessful ground search, ASU was put on the call and within five minutes they found the youth in a large, dark green space and they were returned safely to their home.
