REGINA — The City of Regina has given away hundreds of pounds of used clothing.
Through its Back-to-School Street Store, residents had the chance to pick up children’s clothing, backpacks and shoes at the North Regina Little League Park on Thursday.
“We had hundreds of people show up around the opening,” said Willow Iorga, co-ordinator of education and outreach at the City of Regina water, waste and environment department.
The idea behind the event is to reuse textile clothing, as recycling treatments for the material aren’t commonly available.
This was the second year the city has done the street store, which collects clothing from its facilities during the month of July.
Compared to last year, this year's street store was supported by SaskEnergy and Ministry of Environment.
Iorga said it’s likely the event will continue next year in a bigger capacity.
