SASKATOON — Touted as a hidden gem in Saskatoon’s vibrant northeast sector, Arbor Creek blends both convenience and peaceful, quiet neighbourhood qualities. In fact, Arbor Creek is known for its family-friendly atmosphere that includes scenic parks.

Developed in the late 1990s and early 2000s, Arbor Creek is still considered a relatively new neighbourhood in Saskatoon. The name reflects its tree-filled surroundings.

SaskToday spoke to new residents of the community about why they chose Arbor Creek as their home.

“When looking for our forever home it was important to find a neighbourhood that was well-established to raise our children in for many years. Thinking of our children’s education, Arbor Creek is in close proximity to elementary schools, a high school, and the university. It also has perks of living close to shopping centres, walking paths and many parks. It was an easy decision to buy a house in Arbor Creek and we have loved living in the neighbourhood for just over two years,” say Sean and Kylie.

Did you know that Arbor Creek was once branded as part of the neighbouring Erindale neighbourhood before being split in the early 1990s?

Arbor Creek is bordered by McOrmond Drive to the east, College Drive and the CN railway tracks to the south, Berini Drive to the west, and Kerr Road to the north.

Construction began in the east-side neighbourhood in 1996 and continued for approximately 10 years.

Like other Saskatoon communities, roadways feature the names of prominent personalities, many in this neighbourhood including musicians as well as several former mayors, such as Wright Way and Buckwold Cove.

Interestingly, Arbor Creek has no schools, with students attending those in the adjacent Erindale and Forest Grove neighbourhoods.

There is also no commercial development in Arbor Creek, though a number of home-based businesses operate in the area.

Arbor Creek offers convenient access to nearby shopping centres such as Preston Crossing and University Heights Square. The University of Saskatchewan is also close by, making it a convenient area for students and faculty.

There are a lot of parks in Arbor Creek, such as Linear Park, which spans seven acres, along with Kaplan Green, Beckett Green Pocket Park and Budge Green Pocket Park. These community parks feature amenities like baseball diamonds, soccer fields and basketball courts. A network of walking trails allows plenty of space to enjoy nature, and in winter a large hill provides sledding opportunities.

A combined Erindale/Arbor Creek Community Association organizes events and activities for residents. Programs operate out of Father Robinson and Dr. John G. Egnatoff Schools as well as neighbourhood parks. The association also plays an important role in representing the interests of residents in key community issues such as schools and parks.
