SASKATOON — Looking for a way to help your dog cool off in the heat? Bring your pooch for a swim at the free Dog Day of Summer event at Mayfair Outdoor Pool on Tuesday, Aug. 26.
Service and therapy dogs are welcome during a dedicated swim time from 11 to 11:55 a.m. and all dogs are welcome during the designated time slots starting at noon.
Returning this year are dedicated sessions for small dogs. Dogs must be under 40 centimetres at the shoulder and less than 9 kilograms to participate in these sessions.
Small dogs (60 dog limit): 10 to 10:55 a.m. and 7 to 7:55 p.m.
Service and therapy dogs (60 dog limit): 11 a.m. to 11:55 a.m.
All other dogs (60 dog limit per time slot):
Noon to 12:55 p.m.
1 to 1:55 p.m.
2 to 2:55 p.m.
3 to 3:55 p.m.
4 to 4:55 p.m.
5 to 5:55 p.m.
6 to 6:55 p.m.
Attendance is by online pre-registration only at saskatoon.ca/dogdayofsummer and a limit of 60 dogs per session. Registration will open Tuesday, July 8 and will close Sunday, Aug. 17. All dogs must be accompanied by an adult owner, well-socialized, vaccinated and licensed in Saskatoon. If you don’t have a current license, one can be purchased online prior to registering for the event at saskatoon.ca/petlicense.
The Saskatoon SPCA will be hosting a fundraiser barbecue at the event, with all proceeds going towards SPCA initiatives.
The Dog Day of Summer event is held annually after the seasonal closure of Mayfair Outdoor Pool. No human swimming will be permitted.
