SASKATOON — The Saskatoon Fire Department responded to multiple grass fires along the rail line in Wess Road on Friday night, Aug. 1.

SFD dispatch received the report of the incident at 5:18 p.m. Two engines, two brush trucks and two water tankers responded to the fire.

The Clavet Fire Department backed up the SFD in containing the multiple grass fires, responding to incidents outside of the city limits.

The multiple grass fires stretched over a five-kilometre area from Wess Road to outside the city limits on Highway 16 eastbound.

Saskatoon firefighters used hand lines and brush trucks to extinguish and contain the grass fires within the city.

A part of the Wess Road grass fire is estimated to be almost 200 metres long, and about 50 metres away from a multi-level condominium that is being built.

The fire has been contained and completely extinguished, and there were no injuries to civilians or firefighters reported.
