SASKTOON — No need to have a hot dog — Saskatoon’s recreation and community development tells SaskToday that Mayfair Pool will once again be host location for the Dog Day of Summer event.
This west side outdoor city swimming pool will hold the event on Aug. 26, and the city says no additional dates or other locations are scheduled for this event. Swimming season concludes at Mayfair Pool on Aug. 24.
“Since it’s launch in 2013, Dog Day of Summer has taken place each year, with the only exception being in 2020,” adds the City of Saskatoon’s recreation and community development department.

Of the city’s outdoor pools, George Ward closed Aug. 17, while Mayfair and Lathey pools concluded their seasons on Aug. 24. Riversdale Outdoor Pool will close on Sept. 1.
The SRCD department also tells SaskToday of the 2025 outdoor pool season, “Air quality has an impact on outdoor pool attendance. Temperature is another key factor affecting pool attendance. Historically, when temperatures reach 24°C or higher, outdoor pool admissions increase significantly. The five-year average shows about 425 patrons per day when temperatures are below 24°C, and 1500 patron per day when temperatures are 24°C or higher. Attendance this year has been lower, which may be a result of air quality concerns and lower temperatures.“
