SASKATOON — The Saskatoon Wildlife Federation issued an important trout pond update on Aug. 19, and there's nothing fishy about it.
“To help protect the fishery and support healthier populations, the Trout Pond is now catch and release only.”
The SWF says they’ve noticed a decline in fish size and numbers and this step will ensure anglers can continue to enjoy fishing at this location for years to come. They ask that anglers release their catch carefully to assist in conserving this special spot.
The trout pond is located at the Saskatoon Wildlife Federation on 27206 Range Road 3050. The best access is by driving past the visitor centre and banquet hall, and parking in front of the gated entrance.

SWF says the pond is stocked annually and is open to the public, with provincial and federal angling laws applying. The fishing spot is maintained and promoted by the SWF, a non-profit organization, dedicated to wildlife conservation and habitat preservation since 1931.
“The Federation is responsible for the upkeep and management of the pond, including the annual stocking and ensuring compliance with fishing regulations.”
While a valid fishing license is required to participate the pond is free to use.

“Regarding funding, the pond’s maintenance and stocking are supported by the Saskatoon chapter of the Wildlife Federation, which relies on membership fees, donations and community support of their fundraising efforts, “a spokesperson for SWF tells SaskToday.
This trout pond is maintained by Federation staff and dedicated volunteers.
Elton Dutka, President of the Saskatoon Wildlife Federation says, “Our trout pond is a wonderful example of how community conservation, and outdoor recreation, can come together. We’re proud to offer a space where families and anglers of all ages can enjoy fishing, learn about responsible angling, and connect with nature, right here in Saskatoon.”
