SASKATOON — A free, fun and energetic event saw Saskatoon’s Mayfair Pool host the Dog Day of Summer on Aug. 26, with ten 55-minute swim sessions held throughout the day. Each session allowed up to 60 dogs.

“In 2025, there were over 380 dogs registered for the event, and in the last ten years of running this event, we have had over 2,250 dogs participate,” said City of Saskatoon event staff.
Organizers said they didn’t always divide dogs by size but have learned something new each year. With dedicated swim times and preregistration online, the event continues to evolve to provide a better experience for both organizers and participants.

The event takes place after the closure of the Mayfair Outdoor Pool and gives dogs one last splash before the facility is drained to end the outdoor pool season.
“All dogs must be accompanied by an adult owner, well-socialized, vaccinated and licensed in Saskatoon, and no human swimming is permitted during this event.”
The energy and enthusiasm didn’t just come from the dogs and their families. Members of the public were also invited to watch.
One spectator duo told SaskToday they weren’t from the Mayfair neighbourhood and were cat owners themselves, but they enjoyed seeing the fun and smiles the dogs brought throughout the day.
The Saskatoon SPCA hosted an all-day barbecue, with proceeds supporting the organization.

Saskatoon Waterpaws, a canine aquatic centre, provided nail trimming before entry, as well as toys and dog lifejackets. Staff also answered questions about hydrotherapy services for injured dogs.

The Saskatoon Animal Control Agency was also on site to answer questions and provide information on the city’s Animal Control Bylaw.
