SASKATOON – Saskatoon Police Service was involved in multiple investigations over a three-day period, resulting in several arrests on charges including armed robbery and weapons offences.
One man was taken to hospital following a stabbing early this morning.
Shortly after 3:30 a.m. on Aug. 27, police were called to the 1500 block of 22nd Street West for a report of a stabbing. When officers arrived, they found a male victim suffering from a stab wound. He was taken to hospital by paramedics for treatment of what was believed to be a non-life-threatening injury. Further investigation found that the victim had been walking in the area when he was approached by an unknown man who punched and stabbed him in an attempt to steal his property. The suspect then fled the area.
Members of the Serious Assault Unit are continuing to investigate.
Youth robbed, allegedly by man
A 36-year-old Saskatoon man is facing charges after a youth was robbed on the weekend.
At approximately 7:15 p.m., on Aug. 25, police were called to the 300 block Johnson Crescent. A 14-year-old reported that he was approached by two men. One suspect threw the victim to the ground, while the other showed what appeared to be a firearm before they stole the boy's smart phone and fled in a Honda Civic.
Police were able to locate the vehicle in the parking lot in the 3300 block of Fairlight Drive. As they were taking the first suspect into custody, the second one fled the scene in the vehicle. It was later located in the 100 block of Kensington Blvd.
The 36-year-old man who was arrested is facing charges including armed robbery.
The youth wasn’t physically injured during the incident.
Loaded firearm found in traffic stop
Two men were arrested following a traffic stop. Shortly before 11 p.m. on Aug. 24, police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle known to be involved in an aggravated assault investigation from earlier in the month. As officers were taking the driver into custody, a passenger exited the vehicle and attempted to take a bag from the back seat. Officers took the bag from the passenger and located a loaded firearm and bear spray inside.
As a result, the two men, age 35 and 20, are facing several weapons-related charges.
Two arrested after theft at business
Two people were arrested following a robbery yesterday evening.
At around 7:15 p.m. on Aug. 24, police were called to a business in the 300 block of Confederation Drive for a report of an assault in progress. When officers arrived, they learned that two people had been attempting to steal merchandise belonging to the business when they were confronted by a security guard. They then assaulted the security guard and fled. Officers located both suspects nearby and arrested them without incident.
As a result, a man and woman, both age 30, have been charged with robbery.
