SASKATOON — You don’t have to be on social media to enjoy an in-person experience with Twitter. However, you can tweet your way through Saskatoon, and the province, experiencing the best bird tours.
Stan Shadick of Saskatoon Custom Bird Tours, in partnership with Living Sky Wildlife Rehabilitation, has been active in wildlife conservation through Nature Saskatchewan, where he previously served as president.
In his retirement, this feathered friend enthusiast has been volunteering his time offering birding tours to over 40 destinations across Saskatchewan, as a fundraiser for the Living Sky Wildlife Rehabilitation charity.
People can find the links to all of their tours at www.birdtours.ca or here.
“Saskatchewan has more rare and endangered species of birds than any other part of Canada. Our prairies are the most endangered bird habitat in the world. We believe it is important for Saskatchewan residents to learn about the great diversity of birds and bird habitats in our province,” said Shadick.
The bird tour facilitator says, “During our tours, we help participants identify the various species of birds and learn about any issues affecting their well-being. We believe it is important that people learn about the different kinds of birds that occur within various habitats in Saskatchewan. By participating in our tours, participants help demonstrate that birding also has an important economic benefit to Saskatchewan. Novice and experienced birders are welcome.”
Outside of Saskatoon, during spring and summer, tours are offered in Cypress Hills, Grasslands National Park, Prince Albert National Park, Souris River Valley, plus many birding hotspots in or near Saskatoon.
Shadick notes, “During fall migration, we guide people to view whooping cranes, the tallest and most elegant bird in North America.”
Winter brings photography tours that offer snowy owls, great gray owls and northern hawk owls.
“We are also offering a shorebird photography workshop from July 22–23.”
