Photos: Community enjoys Saskatoon Police Service BBQ

All proceeds from the dunk tank will be donated to the Special Olympics.

SASKATOON — Hundreds of residents, including kids, enjoyed learning about the Saskatoon Police Service and other first responders during their annual barbecue on Wednesday outside the SPS headquarters on 25th Street.

Ontario Avenue was closed from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with different booths displaying equipment and gear used by SPS, including vehicles from agencies such as Saskatoon Search and Rescue and the province’s pediatric ambulance service.

A hit among kids and adults alike was the dunk tank, where for $5, guests would get three tries to dunk a police officer. Various police officers took turns being dunked for a good cause, with proceeds going to the Special Olympics. The dunk tank raised about $700 last year. Current total wasn't available at the publication time.

Kids also enjoyed lining up for face painting, balloon animal making and twisting by Warren Johnson, a K9 demonstration, live music, displays of various police gear and equipment, and a tour of the headquarters.

There were also food trucks where people could purchase food, such as Country Style BBQ and ice cream, to cool down as the temperature reached 23 degrees.
