SASKATOON—The Saskatoon Fire Department quickly responded to a multi-residential structure fire in the 1100 Block of McKercher Drive on Wednesday evening.
The incident was reported at 6:50 p.m., with the first arriving crews seeing smoke and flames from the balcony of one of the residential units.
The incident commander directed firefighters to deploy hose lines to suppress the exterior flames, successfully containing the fire from spreading further into the structure.
A second crew, meanwhile, entered the building to perform a primary search, confirming that all occupants had evacuated safely. No injuries were reported among civilians or firefighters.
Once the fire was completely extinguished, high-powered fans were used to ventilate the structure, removing remaining smoke and airborne toxins.
The scene was later turned over to a fire investigator to determine the cause and origin of the fire and assess the extent of the damage.
The SFD commended the quick response and co-ordinated effort of its crews, which prevented further damage and ensured the safety of residents and responders.
