SASKATOON — A pair of Saskatoon friends are $1 million richer after winning big on the April 25 LOTTO MAX draw.
James Wawryk and Joel Hedlin matched one of the MAXMILLIONS selections to claim the windfall, which left them in disbelief.
“I scanned [the ticket] probably ten times on the Lotto Spot app,” Wawryk laughed. “I thought, ‘I’ve gotta calm down here!’”
After discovering the win, Wawryk texted Hedlin and asked him to stop by under the pretense of not feeling well.
“He said he was sick and dehydrated,” Hedlin said. “So, I went to drop off some Gatorade and check on him… that’s when he scanned the ticket and showed me it was $1 million.”
“He’s been on me ever since about paying back for the Gatorade,” Wawryk added with a laugh.
The duo, who regularly buy tickets together, are excited to enjoy their prize.
“I’m looking forward to going to a Dallas Cowboys game for once in my life,” said Hedlin. “My wife and I have been talking about taking a trip for a long time.”
“It’ll be good to put money away and save some for a rainy day,” said Wawryk.
The winning ticket was purchased at Ironwells Gas Bar at 4031 44 St. in Lloydminster. The pair matched all seven numbers — 1, 3, 13, 21, 25, 36 and 46 — on one of the MAXMILLIONS selections drawn.
