SASKATOON — Update July 21, 8:15 p.m.: Saskatoon Fire Department responded to inquiry regarding Recycling Centre Fire in Lawson Heights July 20.
“Recycling Truck Fire – July 20. There was a fire incident involving a recycling truck on Sunday (Incident # 25-16233). Saskatoon Fire Department received the call at 11:19 a.m. Upon arrival, the crew found that the driver had already extinguished the visible flames; however, the truck’s contents were still smouldering. To ensure the fire was fully out, the crew unloaded the truck’s contents onto the pavement and extinguished the remaining hotspots. The scene was handed over to the City’s waste management team at approximately 12:30 p.m. for cleanup."

It’s the story that never seems to end. The Recycling Centre in Lawson Heights has once again made the news after fire crews were called to a fire on July 20.
Earlier stories on SaskToday talked of residents’ concerns about safety and hazards involved with the area seemingly becoming a dumping ground.
While the cause of the July 20 fire has not been confirmed, some expressed their opinions and concerns on social media citing a variety of theories that may include bulky boxes not broken down and overflowing, vandalism/mischief and potentially even combustible material dumped in with flammables like cardboard.
SaskToday.ca reached out to the City of Saskatoon for comment on this story and will update once that response has been received.
