Saskatoon manholes are under regular scrutiny.

SASKATOON — The city will be conducting manhole rehabilitation as part of its annual inspection and routine infrastructure assessments. The project will cover approximately 50 locations in the city.

The city’s Asset Preservation Team, under the Transportation and Construction division, told SaskToday in a statement that they conduct annual inspections of manholes as part of their infrastructure assessments.

“[Also] in preparation for upcoming projects such as road resurfacing and water main replacements. Manholes identified as needing rehabilitation are scheduled for repair ahead of any planned surface or underground work,” the statement said.

There is currently a request for quotation for contractors that can provide the equipment, labour, material, and supervision for the manhole rehabilitation. The deadline for submission for the project for tender is on Thursday, Sept. 4.

The statement said the locations were selected based on the previous inspections they made in the city’s manholes, along with the catch basins and adjacent pipe segments within 1.5 metres of the said structures.

“The tender also includes provisions for emergency repairs, should urgent issues arise during the contract period. A similar project was last tendered in 2021 for a two-year term, with an option to renew for an additional two years,” the statement added.
