Saskatoon water rescue unit saves person clinging to bridge pier

There is no information on the rescued individual, who was referred to only as the "patient" by the release issued by the Saskatoon Fire Department.

SASKATOON — A person was rescued from the water of the South Saskatchewan River Thursday in Saskatoon.

The Saskatoon Fire Department Water Rescue Team was called out July 31, at 9:13 a.m. Upon arrival on the scene, they observed a person in the water holding on to a pier under the Broadway Bridge.

One water rescue firefighter engaged the distressed patient in the water, securing the patient with a flotation device.

Three more water rescue firefighters arrived in rescue boat 1, and they lifted the person into the boat. Firefighter paramedics determined the person required medical attention. They transported the person to shore and transferred the rescued individual to ambulance personnel.

There is no information on the rescued individual, who was referred to only as the "patient" by the release issued by the Saskatoon Fire Department.

The scene was turned over to the Saskatoon Police Service for further investigation.
