SASKATOON — Saskatoon Food Bank and Learning Centre (SFBLC) is calling on the community to “Walk with Us” this May during the annual City-Wide Food Drive, a month-long campaign to collect food and raise funds in support of those facing hunger in Saskatoon.
Each month, 23,000 people access emergency food at SFBLC, and 41 per cent of them are children. This campaign highlights the reality that food insecurity can affect people at any stage of life — from new parents caring for infants, to students and working adults trying to make ends meet, to seniors living on fixed incomes. Every donation — whether food or funds — helps provide some relief and stability to those navigating difficult times.
Businesses, schools, teams, faith groups, and community organizations are encouraged to register for a collection barrel and rally their networks to collect non-perishable food items. Visit saskatoonfoodbank.org/citywidefooddrive25 to participate. Food donations can also be made at participating grocery stores or dropped off at Saskatoon Food Bank C Learning Centre at 202 Avenue C South, Monday to Friday.
“No one should have to worry about how they’ll put food on the table,” SFBLC Executive Director Laurie O’Connor says.
“Every day, people in Saskatoon are doing their best to get by, and sometimes that means needing help. City Wide Food Drive is a chance for the community to come together and show what’s possible when we look out for one another.”
Monetary donations remain one of the most effective ways to support this work. With access to bulk pricing and supplier partnerships, financial contributions allow for the purchase of the most-needed items quickly and efficiently. Donations can be made online at www.saskatoonfoodbank.org/donate.
