SASKATOON — The Saskatchewan Workers' Compensation Board values safety as a way of life, which is why it honoured those who prioritize workplace safety during the recent 2025 WorkSafe Saskatchewan Safe Worker and Safe Employer Awards.
Sandee Jordon of SaskEnergy was this year’s recipient of the Safe Worker Award, selected over finalists Devin Berdan of Saskatoon Fire and Flood and David Patterson of the City of Saskatoon.
Creative Options Regina received the 2025 Safe Employer Award, ahead of fellow finalists Avenue Living Communities and North Fridge Industrial Technologies Inc.
The awards, presented since 2002 in partnership between the WCB and the Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety, celebrate efforts to reduce workplace-related injuries and prevent fatalities across Saskatchewan.
WCB Chair Gord Dobrowolsky said the awards recognize individuals and businesses that embrace a safety-first philosophy and take a proactive approach to workplace health and well-being.
“Your commitment to safety is part of a larger impact on provincial workplace safety. Workplaces in Saskatchewan are safer than ever. And it bears repeating that our 2024 total injury rate reached a new provincial low for the second year in a row,” said Dobrowolsky.
“This new historic low in our total injury rate represents the province’s focus and hard work of workers, employers, safety associations and safety leaders to enable worker safety in Saskatchewan. Similarly, in 2024, we had the province’s lowest time-loss injury rate ever.”
Kindersley-Biggar MLA Kim Gartner, who represented the Government of Saskatchewan, congratulated the winners for their dedication to worker and workplace safety.
“Safety in the workplace is not the sole responsibility of any single entity. It is a shared commitment from everyone involved, working together, from workers and employers, as well as our dedicated safety and labour partners. It is through this united effort that we strive to make Saskatchewan a safer place to work,” said Gartner.
