Tackling Tinnitus: Assiniboia event helps clear the noise

Tinnitus has a bad ring to it so Coolidge Hearing Care in Assiniboia addressed the topic with a learning event to help those afflicted tackle the noise.

ASSINIBOIA — Tinnitus, a hearing condition that affects probably 10-15 per cent of people, was the topic of a lunch ‘n learn session held Nov. 21 in Assiniboia, hosted by Coolidge Hearing Care.

Sixty people attended to learn more about the annoying ringing, buzzing and humming in their ears attributed to Tinnitus. Some came for themselves while others attended to learn more details for a loved one.

Following a lunch catered by Fresh Start, people heard speakers present on the topic and ways they can help with this hearing concern.

Dr. Ted Venema, PhD, instructor hearing instrument practitioner program at Douglas College along with Tali Efran, M.A. RAUD (registered audiologist) and Linda Sinclair, registered massage therapist who specializes in Tinnitus relief were part of the program presented. There message revolved around, “Tinnitus, what is it, why do I have it and how can I help it?”

Geraldine Ruzicka, Board Certified-Hearing Instrument Practitioner ( (BC-HIS) says of the event, “Many people expressed that they walked away with a great deal of knowledge from the event and enjoyed learning how massage therapy can help calm the noises they hear.”

Coolidge Hearing Care is pleased to announce that going forward they are implementing Tinnitus Care Plans for those in and around Assiniboia.

Geraldine, better known as Geri, brings over 20 years of experience in the hearing healthcare industry. Her hearing health knowledge extends far beyond education as she has been wearing hearing aids since the age of 8. Opening her business in Assiniboia in December of 2020, it has offered Assiniboia and area its only first-time full-service hearing aid clinic.

Education sessions such as the one offered on the specific hearing condition known as Tinnitus is important to the goals of Ruzicka and her team in helping people with their own journey towards better hearing.
