Southern Saskatchewan was surprised to hear that the Moose Jaw Times Herald will be winding down its operations. Its last edition will come out in early December.

The Assiniboia Early Childhood Coalition opened the Assiniboia Family Centre on November 7 and it will be holding a grand opening on Monday, November 20. The centre is located in the old library at 110 Fourth Avenue next to the Post Office.

The Assiniboia and District Arts Council held a successful annual Mistletoe Art and Craft Sale on November 3-4. The event attracted over 700 visitors who braved wintry weather over the two days of the show.

The Assiniboia and District Remembrance Day commemoration was held at the St. George’s Catholic Church Hall on November 11. Members of the Assiniboia Chapter of the Royal Canadian Legion entered the hall in procession to begin the event.

Saskatchewan pea producers were shocked by India’s announcement on November 10 that it has slapped a 50 per cent import duty on Canadian peas, effective immediately.

A total of 47,033 head of cattle were sold in Saskatchewan this week, up substantially from 31,948 head sold the previous week, and up from 44,823 head the same week a year ago, reported Saskatchewan Agriculture for the week ending October 27.

The Assiniboia Livestock Auction held its pre-sorted Charolais cross and/or exotic calf and yearling sale on October 31 with 2,828 head sold. There were seven weight categories of steer calves and yearlings sold.

The Assiniboia Rotary Club members gathered to welcome the achievements of its members and to report on the progress of its programs on October 29.

The First and Second World Wars had a profound effect on Canada as a fledgling nation. Assiniboia and the surrounding communities played an important part in the war effort. Many young men and women volunteered for service and many did not return.

The Notekeu Hockey League opens its new 2017-2018 hockey season on November 10 featuring three exciting matchups. The season promises lots of drama and competitive sporting action.
