Veterans Week starts on November 5 and culminates on that symbolic day of November 11 for Remembrance Day. Veterans Week has also been proclaimed for the town of Assiniboia, joining towns and cities across the province.

On behalf of the Town of Assiniboia, Mayor Bob Himbeault signed a proclamation declaring the week prior to Rembrance Day as Veterans Week.

The FBI was there along with special forces, Spiderman, Bob the Builder and a couple of princesses for the Community Halloween Party for children at the Prince of Wales auditorium on October 29. These were a few of the unique costumes on display.

Saskatchewan Party leadership candidate Scott Moe was touring southwest Saskatchewan on October 20 with stops in Mankota for the big livestock sale, Kincaid, Gravelbourg and Lafleche.

Volunteers from the women’s auxiliary at St. George’s Roman Catholic Church in Assiniboia spent the day on October 18 sewing for charity.

The roster of 11 high-calibre NHL players will hit the ice at Crescent Point Place on December 1 to compete against the Element Red Wings team on the Montreal Canadiens Alumni Tour.

Grandmothers were pitched against grandmothers, but all in good fun, at the fifth annual children’s art auction at the Shurniak Art Gallery in Assiniboia on October 22. The auction showcased pieces by very young artists.

Marla Brandon is retiring at the end of the month after a 38-year career in banking. The RBC held a farewell day with a cake on October 18 so that customers and community members could visit with Brandon.

The works of local artist Beth Stobbs was on display in the Kay Cristo Room during October. Her pieces feature the landscape around Wood River as well as wildlife and a series on birch trees.

Harvest is essentially complete for producers in the province with 98 per cent of the crop now in the bin, reported Saskatchewan Agriculture for the period ending October 16. This figure is up from 94 per cent the previous reporting week.
