Redvers Rockets advance to semifinals in Big Six playoffs

Redvers scored 11 times Sunday night to eliminate Midale.

SOUTHEAST SASKATCHEWAN - The Redvers Rockets are the first team to advance to the semifinals in the Big Six Hockey League's playoffs.

Redvers trounced the Midale Mustangs 11-2 on Sunday night to sweep the best-of-five quarter-final series in three games. Steven Lindenbach opened the scoring for the Mustangs 2:41 into the first period, but the Rockets rattled off eight unanswered goals.

Jordon Miller had four goals and four assists for Redvers, and Presten Kopeck finished with two goals and five assists. Kenton Miller, Daylin Smallchild, Colby Potapinski, Francis Lamotte and Bradey Fidierchuk had Redvers' other goals. Thomas Bauche was the goalie.

Lindenbach had both goals for Midale. Talen King and Tim Rosengren shared the goaltending duties.

Redvers won the league title last season. 

Two other games were played on Sunday. The Carlyle Cougars scored five times in the first period and defeated the Wawota Flyers 10-7 to take a 2-0 series lead in their best-of-five showdown.

Jesse Gabrielle led the Cougars' attack with three goals and three assists, and Jon Gaudet had a goal and four assists. Ben Johnstone scored twice, and Tanner Froese, Adrien Riddell, Josh Romanyk and Ty Currie also scored.

Ayden Lawless led Wawota's attack with three goals and two assists, and Brady Dinwoodie had two goals and two helpers. Phil Fath and Blake Rasmuson also scored for the Flyers.

Cameron Pateman was in goal for Carlyle, and Brendan Rinn was the Wawota goalie.

Game 3 in the series is set for Feb. 21 in Carlyle at 8 p.m.

Also on Sunday, the Moosomin Rangers doubled up the Oxbow Huskies 6-3 to take a 2-0 lead in their series. Ryker Cole had three goals and an assist for Moosomin, while Brock Trotter scored twice and Bud Holloway also scored.

Alex Von Sprecken, Colton Schell and Blake Brooks scored for Oxbow.

Kyler Beckett (Moosomin) and Cody Levesque (Oxbow) were the goalies.

Game 3 is set for Feb. 23 in Moosomin, starting at 8 p.m.
