REGINA - The Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation (STF) announced Friday morning that teachers in the South East Cornerstone Public School Division and the Holy Family Roman Catholic Separate School Division are among those who will be part of a one-day rotating strike that will take place on March 4.

A rotating strike is the withdrawal of all professional and voluntary services for a 24-hour period. Teachers will not report to school and will not perform any teaching-related duties on the day of a strike.

Also affected are teachers at École de Bellegarde, which is a French school, and those with the Saskatchewan Distance Learning Corporation's South East Campus in Estevan.

On Monday, striking teachers from the local associations and several other affected divisions in the province will gather outside the Saskatchewan Legislature in Regina. This action coincides with the first day of the spring legislative session.

The Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation says supporters can join teachers on the strike line between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.

There was no immediate word on if there will be picket lines in the southeast.

Earlier this week, the STF announced that noon hour supervision would be withdrawn in all Holy Family schools on March 1. Also, extracurricular activities would not be happening in all Saskatchewan schools on March 5 and 6. Extracurricular activities include all sports, drama, intramurals, student leadership activities, graduation planning and all other clubs organized at local schools.

"Further STF job action may impact our schools in the future," South East Cornerstone said in a letter to parents. "We understand that the STF intends to give 48 hours’ notice when announcing job action. We continue to be hopeful that a resolution will be reached and are supportive of the collective bargaining process."

In a separate letter, Holy Family said it respects the collective bargaining rights of teaching staff and is committed to the process of reaching a new collective bargaining agreement.
