Alida news - recognizing a talented young graduate

ALIDA - Congratulations and best wishes to Julie Potapinski, who graduated from Trent University in Peterborough, Ont., with a bachelor of forensic science with honours in 2021 and received her certification in advanced law enforcement and investigations at Durham College in Oshawa, Ont., with honours in June. She is now employed as a records clerk with the Thunder Bay Police Service.   

On July 29, Leonard and Lil Patton travelled to Austin, Man., to attend the annual Thresherman’s Reunion for a couple of days, returning home July 31. 

Best wishes to Holly Anthony, who retired as of Aug. 1 from 31 years as a parts person at the Alida Farm & Auto Garage. She has worked for the current owners, Grant and Jenny, for 22 years and previous to that, she worked nine years for then-owners Jackie and the late Gordon Doan.  

Attending the funeral of Isobelle Evans on Aug. 1 in Carnduff were Dale and Holly Anthony, Bill and Kathy Anthony, Hazel Dieabel and Wayne Anthony of Weyburn. Hazel and Wayne visited with their brothers and helped Holly celebrate her retirement before heading home on Aug. 2.   

Sincere sympathy is extended to the McIntryre family on the death of their mother Karol McIntyre who passed away Aug. 7. She will be remembered by her family: Merilynn and Calvin Lamport, Nancy and Ken Plews, Melissa and Rob Byers, Brad and Robin McIntryre, 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Karol was predeceased by her husband Neil in January 2022. Funeral arrangements are pending. 

Belated congratulations and best wishes to Hayley Bendtsen, who had obtained a bachelor of science in agriculture with honours and great distinction in May 2021, and is employed with PPS trees as a horticulturist in Saskatoon. 

On July 3, Dale and Holly Anthony enjoyed a trip to Brandon on business as well as to celebrate Holly’s retirement. 

Visiting with Ernest and Dianne were his sister Lil and brother-in-law Tony Blasko of Penticton, B.C. They were supper guests and overnight visitors on Aug. 4. They were on their way to a wedding in Neepawa, Man., and a family reunion at Shoal Lake, Man.
