WEYBURN - Following the announcement last week that she was expecting to resign from her position as director of education for the South East Cornerstone Public School Division so she can retire, Lynn Little still had to wait for the acceptance of the resignation request from the board of trustees at their public meeting on Feb. 16.

The motion to accept the resignation was forwarded by Weyburn trustee Norma Hewitt-Lendrum who noted that it was a motion being made regretfully.

“I believe we need to highlight the word regretfully,” said Jim Vermeersch, Subdivision 2trustee, which includes Carlyle, Arcola, Manor, Maryfield and Wawota.

Carol Flynn, Subdivision 1 trustee (Rocanville, Moosomin) – who was also serving as chairwoman for the meeting in the absence of chairwoman Audrey Trombley, who joined the meeting via online services – said, “we certainly appreciate the work you’ve done. Your talent was used well Lynn, thank you so much.”

Flynn then reminded the board members “you can vote negatively you know,” punctuating the comment with a laugh.

None of them took up that opportunity.

Asked if she cared to speak about the decision, Little, who has been the director since the 2014-15 school year and previously held the deputy directorship, superintendent and principal positions in the school divisions in southeast Saskatchewan, choose not to at this time.

“I’ll save comments for later. I’m not quite there yet,” she said.

Little’s resignation will officially take place in July of this year.
