Don't miss the poetry of today

Have you met anyone who has no special gift or talent? It is up to us to use our talents, our passions and our opportunities to share in the unfolding of God's plan. God has made us collaborators in creation, and it is by our care and responsibility for the world that we show our gratitude.

"Only in the unfolding of the history of our lives and its events," Pope John Paul II said, "is the eternal plan of God revealed to each of us." How exciting is that? God calls us personally to participate in creation.

We are stewards of the mysteries of God. The Holy Spirit works through us in the unfolding of creation and, as followers of Christ, in the redemption and sanctification of the world.

Putting this in more practical terms, we experience the poetry of today by use of our talents as an artist or a craftsman. As a participant in the drama of life our collar may be blue, white or clerical. Today's act is as simple as writing a poem, pruning a geranium, planting a seed or cleaning away winter's garbage.

I would like to share several thoughts from 12 things we should be able to say about ourselves:

I am following my heart and intuition. "Don't be pushed by your problems. Be led by your dreams. Each of us has a fire in our hearts burning for something. It's our responsibility in life to find it and keep it lit Dream with your eyes open until you know exactly what it looks like. Then do at least one thing every day to make it a reality."

I am growing into the best version of me. "Judy Garland once said, 'Always be a first rate version of yourself instead of a second rate version of somebody else.' If you aren't being yourself, you aren't truly living - you're merely existing."

I Accept myself. I am proud of myself and know that I make a difference - this combines a couple of the 12 points.

I am happy and grateful. The start of happiness is gratitude!

I have no regrets. To accomplish this: follow your heart; be true to yourself; laugh as much as you breathe; love as long as you live; offer a helping hand; appreciate all you do have; learn from your mistakes; forgive; and let go of the things you can't control.

Today, enter the beauty of being a part of God's creation. Be the poem. Be grateful for the time and the joy.
