It was a good night for 19 community organizations during the Lions Club’s dinner and donation evening Jan. 27.
The local club handed out $25,000 to the groups during the event at the Nicholson Centre. The distribution of funds by the Lions Club comes following the formation of a community support committee. Following fundraising through their annual calendar draw, the Estevan Showcase Business Expo and the CNIB golf tournament for the blind, the club found itself with lots of money to give. The committee was struck to determine a good home for the funds.
“Tonight is a great night for our club,” said Jim Vermeersch, membership chair, regarding the commitment of $25,000 in funding.
“This money was raised largely form the community, and our focus tonight will be on giving back to the community.”
Nancy Nagy said the groups represented at last week’s meeting were those groups determined to have a need and suited the Lions’ mission statement to empower volunteers to serve communities and meet humanitarian needs.
