More or Less: It’s all about love

The support and community spirit of Weyburn has always amazed me.

No matter how you celebrate, or with whom you celebrate, February 14 is the day to express your love for those around you.

WEYBURN - With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, stores are filled with red and pink baubles and bling, and perfect gifts for each and every one of your Valentines.

Perhaps you prefer to create your own gift, such as heart-shaped sugar cookies, or a gourmet meal.

No matter how you celebrate, or with whom you celebrate, February 14 is the day to express your love for those around you.

For the last several years, we have featured a Valentine’s contest in Weyburn This Week that focuses on sharing your love with our local vendors.

Entries for this year’s contest are flooding in, and we look forward to announcing the winners soon.  The deadline is approaching, so make sure to visit the participating businesses and spread the love.

The support and community spirit of Weyburn has always amazed me.

Our residents support local businesses, businesses support minor sports and local events, service groups have ongoing projects to benefit the community; wherever there is a need, people here step up and meet those needs.

Recently a young family lost their home to a fire. The outpouring of love shown to them by our community was amazing to witness. Friends and neighbours rallied together to meet their needs.

This story is one among many. Weyburn is a community that steps up and shows love.

We also love being together. Gatherings and events are being held all over the city, for every age and every person. Coffee connoisseurs meet daily to discuss the weather and share news.

Whether it’s a simple smile when meeting someone on the street, helping a neighbour with chores, or donating food to the food bank … it shows love.

The Beatles sang, “All you need is love.”

I say, “All you need is love and a city like ours.”
