Salvation Army regains partnership for Back to School promotion

There is still time to register for the Salvation Army’s Back to School campaign.

There is still time to register for the Salvation Army’s Back to School campaign.

Army officials reported this past week that for a third consecutive year they are partnering with Staples to provide necessary back-to-school supplies and other materials for local students.

“We are taking applications at the Salvation Army offices until Aug. 28,” said Ronza Reynard, the Army’s administration manager in Estevan. “And, of course, we’ll accept any last minute, or just past the deadline
application too,” she added.

So far the applications are on par with last year, and to help support the cause from a financial perspective, Staples has conducted a fundraising barbecue this summer to promote the program.

“The city has always responded in the past to needs like this. We invite families who believe they may need a little assistance to get their child into the classroom with the necessary supplies, to pop into the office and fill out the application. We’re here if the people need us,” said Reynard.

On average, Reynard said the SA has observed an increase in new families to the city over the past few months so they are anticipating an increase in requests for assistance, “whether it be for backpacks, pencils or food bank. It’s just the way it is lately, so we have to be there while the economy does a turn around.”
