Summer meeting dates, bylaw approved at Assiniboia Town Council

ASSINIBOIA - The Town of Assiniboia Council members gathered for a meeting on May 24. Attending the meeting were Mayor Sharon Schauenberg; Councillors Robert Ellert, Graham Harvey, Kent Fettes, Peter Kordus; CAO Clint Mauthe; director of corporate services, Kerri Martin; and recreation and wellness manager, Stephanie VanDeSype. Missing from the meeting was Patrick Grondin.

The meeting was called to order, and public acknowledgements given to Sgt. Dennis Silliker and Ashley Burney from the Assiniboia RCMP, a representative from the Assiniboia Times, and resident Tom Stanley.

The agenda was adopted and accepted, with an addition of a request for decision for council meeting dates during the summer. Moved by Ellert/Fettes.

The minutes of last meeting accepted and adopted as presented. Moved by Kordus/Harvey.

The minutes of the Assiniboia Historical Society meeting held April 20 accepted and adopted as presented. The minutes of Prince of Wales board meeting, held April 14 were accepted and adopted as presented. Moved by Fettes/Kordus. The RCMP report was given, and accepted as presented. Moved by Ellert/Fettes.

Correspondence accepted from Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) fire service guide correspondence. Moved by Fettes/Kordus.

The CAO report given and accepted. Statement of financial activity accepted, list of paid accounts accepted, water quality report for May accepted. Moved by Fettes/Harvey.

New Business

Council approved a request to retain ownership of all parcels within Assiniboia Water Supply and to enter a Land lease with RM Lake of the Rivers for five years.  Moved by Fettes/ Ellert.

Council resolved to appoint Virginia Shepley, a Licensed Building Official as the Pression Building Inspector for the town. Moved by Ellert/Harvey.

Council gave first, second, third and final readings to bylaw to establish tax mill rate and base tax for the agricultural, residential  and commercial property for the year 2022. First reading moved by Ellert/Harvey; second reading moved by Fettes/Harvey; third reading moved by Kordus/Harvey; final reading moved by Fettes/Kordus. 

Town council approved the 2021 audited financials. It was consolidated with the Prince of Wales 2021 audited financial statements. Moved by Ellert/Harvey. 

Council meeting will be changed for the summer. The June second regular meeting is scheduled to be held Monday, June 27. There will be one meeting a month during the summer, held on Tuesday, July 12 and Tuesday, August 23.  Moved by Fettes/Kordus.
