Finally Spring has sprung in Saskatchewan. It is hard to believe that such a summer-like spring has arrived here after such a long and cold winter. Indeed not only has spring brought warm and comfortable weather, but also it has made everything fresh and beautiful. We all wish that this lovely spring would be last forever. But it will not be. Sooner or later the hot summer will arrive. And after fall, winter will surely arrive in here again, whether or not we like it. However another spring will eventually come to us. These changes, continuity and discontinuity, are a natural cycle on the earth.
Continuity, it can be defined as we all wish a good day would keep on going. We all want a good time to be continuous, and a happy and healthy life to be keeping on forever. But that will not be. It will never happen that way on our life journey. Continuity will stop at a certain time, in a certain place and with a certain reason. Then it becomes discontinuity. So continuity and discontinuity are a part of natural cycles and at the same time a part of life as well. When we look back on our life journey, it seems to be more like the continuity of discontinuity rather than the other way around. Which means that after a each stage of life, there begins a new and different stage of life, not like the cycles in nature.
When God created the all living beings, animals, birds, fishes, plants, and so forth, He also created each one's system of reproduction and survival adaptations for the environment so that each species could exist continuously on the earth. Through each species unique and special way of regeneration system, all kinds of living species have been existing on the earth until today and will into the future as well. It is the continuity of existence. We human beings are not exceptional. We are here because of our parents. Ironically, although the reproduction system ensures species continuity, it also means that individuals in the species have their own days and times, a life mortality, in other word, discontinuity.
Beginning a new life, through a marriage, which is the conventional avenue for regeneration, allows not only the joys of participating in the experience of creating a new human life, but it also achieves continuity for the family. However, life mortality, death, discontinuity, exists for all of us. So we all yearn for immortality, continuity. The Bible said, "God has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end" (Ecclesiastes 3:11). So in faith of God, our life is continuous toward eternity. On the way of our life journey, all we can do is to make each day and everyday the most beautiful and meaningful day in our life with our best efforts. Truly the most beautiful moment of our life is the time of doing our best. Then God will do the rest.
