Assiniboia chamber tournament hosts 66 golfers

Kerri Martin, Laurie Stianson and Sharon Schauenberg were the event organizers for this year’s event. They look forward to 2023.

ASSINIBOIA — Another successful golf tournament for the Assiniboia District and Chamber of Commerce was held on June 12.  Just short of a full tournament, 66 golfers of all ages and groups showed up for a wonderful day of golf.

The tournament featured 18 holes of golf with many proximity prizes at certain holes from longest putt to longest drive, also included at hole #4 was a $5,000 hole-in-one prize. Hole Spotter, Kevin Schauenberg watched golfers try their luck or skill and unfortunately no one came out as the big winner. 

Golfers were well fed during the day with muffins in the morning, smokies at lunch and a chicken or steak dinner. Harvey and his staff served a delicious meal that was enjoyed by all.

Following supper prizes were awarded to the following: ladies closest to the pin: Peg Gronsdahl; men’s closest to the pin: Chris Bamford; ladies longest putt: Darlene Letnes; men’s longest putt: Rock Lidberg; ladies longest drive: Jesse Yasuda; and men’s longest drive: Kevin Gronsdahl.

The top teams of the tournament were: top mixed team: Harvey and Deb Hysuick, with a score of 69; top ladies team: Laurie Hawkins and Peg Gronsdahl with a score of 73; and top men’s team: Reece Cayer and Cody Mercer with a score of 65.

Upon registration, golfers also had the opportunity to enter the grand prize draw. Winner of the door prize sponsored by Cat Country, which was two tickets to Country Thunder was Tyler Bamford, runner up of golf passes was Larry Penner.

There was also a 50/50 with the winner, Peg Gronsdahl taking home $340. The prize parade was also very popular with many winners for the many prizes donated by local businesses. The overwhelming amount of donations from so many local businesses helped to make this annual tournament a success.

Executive Director of the Chamber, Nicole Batty, had planned to be at the event as she was big part of the planning, however, Nicole was absent as she and her husband Carter Lewis welcomed their son Watson that day. Congratulations to Nicole, Carter and big brother Lincoln.
