Assiniboia Town Council promotes Better Together Barbecues

ASSINIBOIA - The Assiniboia Town Council gathered for a meeting on June 27.

Those at council table included: Mayor Sharon Schauenberg, Councilors Robert Ellert, Kent Fettes, Graham Harvey, Peter Kordus and Renee Clermont; CAO Clint Mauthe and Kerri Martin. Regrets were received from Councillor Patrick Grondin.

Public acknowledgements was given to Assiniboia Times. The agenda was adopted and accepted as presented. Moved by Fettes/Kordus.

Minutes of last council meeting of June 13 accepted and adopted as presented.  Moved by Fettes/Kordus. The minutes of planning and Development May 3 and the Assiniboia and District Museum were accepted and adopted as presented. Moved by Kordus/Harvey.

Mayor Sharon Schauenberg made the Proclamation for the Better Together Project of Assinbioia. The Better Together Barbecues will be held on Tuesdays. Local residents are encouraged to wear Better Together T-shirts, find one another, attend better together events and get to know neighbours of all ages. The Better Together barbecue began July 4 and continue every Tuesday until August 29. Moved by Clermont/ Fettes.

Five Hills Health Region: the splash park at the pool will be shut down after July 4 pending a plan for rerouting the discarded water that currently drain back to the main pool.

 A thank you note was received from Katie Kuntz who won the Musical Festival Scholarship.

CAO report given by Clint Mauthe, the report was accepted as read. Top soil is coming in from the tire recycle area. Sand sealing will commence July 10. There are 163 new street signs now in and will be installed by end of summer.

The Ministry of Environment has inspected the landfill and reported to be in top notch standards by provincial standards.

Paid accounts were accepted and presented. Financial activity was accepted as presented after some questions were brought forward by councilors regarding the Prince of Wales statement of finance. These questions will be delt with and answers provided. Moved by Kordus/Fettes.

Request for Decision:

Summer Town Council meetings: Tuesday, July 11 and Tuesday, August 22. Moved by Kordus/Ellert.

Discretionary use sevelopment permit was requested during a dayhome application to increase numbers of children and hire staff.  Approved by council. Moved by Clermont/Kordus.

Naming of civic property and development areas: a policy was put in place for naming or renaming streets within the town of Assiniboia. Moved by Harvey/Fettes.

Council presentations given by each Councilor as to meetings and events attended since last meeting.

New dentist will be coming to Assiniboia to replace Dr. Thomson.

Concession booth at the swimming pool will be opening for the summer months. Adjournment.
