CARLYLE — The Queen of Hearts Beauty Lounge recently celebrated its one-year anniversary in Carlyle and the Observer had the opportunity to interview its sole owner, Kelsie Mund.

Mund, 30, is engaged to Tyler Matthewson and was born and raised in Regina. She moved to Carlyle in 2017 and operated her own business, Skin Deep Medical, out of her home for three years. In the fall of 2020, she came upon an opportunity to purchase the property on Railway Avenue West known at Prairie Sky Kitchens (formerly Royalty Dry-Cleaning).

After both minor and major renovations, the business was opened on Dec. 7, 2020.

In addition to operating Skin Deep Medical, Mund has five team members who operate their own businesses from the Queen of Hearts Beauty Lounge building. These six female entrepreneurs have bonded together since opening day and Mund is proud to highlight the attributes of each.

Kelsie Mund, Skin Deep Medical Aesthetics: Mund specializes in providing a variety of skin treatments relieving acne, scarring and anti-aging. The treatments help both men and women in becoming more confident in their skin.

Brooklyn Sabourin, Botox by B: “Brooklyn specializes in Botox and has recently started offering I.V. Vitamin Infusions. Above all else, she is an incredible nurse.”

Jenna Toms, Jenna-Rae Cosmetic: “Jenna specializes in permanent makeup, spray tanning and teeth whitening with a delicate eye for detail and all things beauty.”

Brienna Blaze, Studio B. Spa and Highridge Honey: “Brienna specializes in lash extensions and lash lifts, and brings a sweet western flair to the team that we can all appreciate.”

Nicole Liboiron, Hairbynbrown: “Nicole specializes in all things hair from balayage and blondes to the most beautiful wedding and graduation styles.”

Amber Evans, The Pampered Peacock: “Amber specializes in body piercing, gel overlay and acrylic nails. She is wildly artistic and isn’t afraid to take on a challenge.”

Mund comes from a small family, who have been very supportive of her dreams from day one. She attributes much of her business knowledge to her father’s help over the years. She is very thankful for having both her parents and future parents-in-law, Gilles and Nancy Matthewson, helping her out with the behind the scenes of her growing business.

She also noted that this small town, southeast Saskatchewan community has welcomed her with open arms. Adds Mund, “I never thought I would become a small-town girl after loving living in bigger cities all these years. Moving to Carlyle is the best thing that has ever happened to me and I am more than happy to now call it my home.”
