Grand opening for Southland Co-op Centre on September 17

ASSINIBOIA - A full day of activities are planned to celebrate the grand opening of the new Southland Co-op Centre on Saturday, September 17.

Events start with a pancake breakfast in the parking lot of the new Southland Co-op Centre at 9 a.m. Throughout the day there will be face painting, bouncy castles, sand art, food trucks, and an outdoor stage featuring local artist Lisa Moen.

Residents are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs to the outdoor portion of the celebrations.

A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. Things move indoors the Southland Co-op Centre for a special indoor program from 1:45 to 3 p.m.

Dignitaries will have an opportunity to speak about the new Southland Co-op Centre during this time.

Dignitaries will include Mayor Sharon Schauenberg, MLA David Marit, and MLA Don McMorris, Minister of Government Relations. A video tour of the inside of the building will also be highlighted.

A public building exploration will be available from 3 to 5 p.m.

An internationally celebrated artist, Jess Moskaluke continues to break barriers in the country music world with her big voice, pop-infused hooks, and sonic versatility. The first Canadian female country artist since Shania Twain to achieve CRIA Platinum single status with the hit ‘Cheap Wine and Cigarettes’, Moskaluke has since gone on to earn CRIA Gold certifications for ‘Take Me Home’, ‘Kiss Me Quiet’ and a nod for her feature on Paul Brandt’s ‘I’m An Open Road’.

Local artists Tyler Lewis and Lisa Moen will also perform. “We sold over half of the tickets to this concert in the first couple of days,” said Curtis Nelson, president of the Assiniboia Civic Improvement Association.

Limited tickets were still available as of August 29. Residents who want to purchase a ticket can book online at www.sasktix.ca.

Naming rights of the new seats in the Southland Co-op Centreare are available for $500 a seat.

The Assiniboia Civic Improvement Association facebook page has posted information on memorial seats that were purchased, in honour of Kevin Tendler, Grant Sandbeck, Marge “Gramma Dynamite” Erfle, and Rob Greensides.

Seats are $500 and tax deductible. They can be purchased by calling Kim at  306-640-7969 or stop in at Nelson GM in Assiniboia.
